Textbook:

Multivariable Calculus (8th edition) by James Stewart.

Even though the above is the official textbook for the class, you can also find very similar content in older editions of Stewart's book and in the free OpenStax book Calculus Volume 3. See this daily schedule showing the correspondence between sections in Stewart and sections in OpenStax for each class meeting.  Note that no homework problems will be taken directly from Stewart's book.

Stewart's book has also been placed on reserve at the Baker Circulation Desk.

 

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  1. Understand the basic structures of multivariable calculus: define terms, explain their significance, and apply them in context.
  2. Solve mathematical problems: write mathematically rigorous arguments and think creatively.
